Preface
Welcome to the online notes for System Analysis and Control.
Material for the class is organized into three chapters:
Modeling (8 lectures)
Analysis (6 lectures)
Control (7 lectures)
Each chapter is split into sections, each with a separate page.
Each section takes 40–50 min to cover in class (two per lecture).
Sections with “+” in their titles take up one full lecture, with half of the lecture devoted to MATLAB implementation. The MATLAB content is not (yet) included in these notes.
Subsections with “(bonus)” in their titles contain optional material that we may cover depending on time and interest.
The appendices function as a “deeper layer”: a place to justify results that are used in the main chapters but whose full derivations would interrupt the flow of the course or go beyond the intended scope. Practically, the appendices exist for curious readers who want to know why something is true, not just how to use it. They are entirely optional!
The glossary contains a list of key recurring concepts and where to find them in the notes. It also includes an organized list of terminology with definitions.
